How To Make Money from Home Online for Free
We all are looking for that dream job where we can lazily get up in the morning have breakfast and coffee and mozy down the hallway to our home office. We sit at our desk, scan our email, reply to a few of them and turn on the radio, sit back and relax. Our work is done for the day.
Well, if you think that is what working from home is you better sit down with another cup of coffee and listen up!
The first thing you must understand is it is not something that is going to happen overnight. It is going to take a lot of consistent work and effort to make it happen. There are NO shortcuts to success!
Listed below in these subtopics are different ways of earning money from home online free. They are in the order that I have experimented with and I’ll let you know my results to date and what the potential is for them if you succeed.

Phone Apps
There are so many phone apps out there, so I will only cover those that I have tried to date. Now, bear in mind that I am an American in Germany so my results are not typical and, in fact, your results should be much better if you are living in the United States or one of the countries that supports that particular phone app. Let’s get started!
Field Agent – Field Agent gives you jobs to do based on your location. Unfortunately for me as an American they are located in the United States. However, I hope to use Field Agent the next time I visit the USA so I can show the results during a 2-week visit. The Field Agent networks also are available in the following countries:
- Canada
- United Kingdom
- Australia
- South Africa
- Mexico
- Ecuador
How it Works – basically you are sent into different businesses to report prices on products, locations of products, store setup of shelves and other things related to store and product marketing.
For those of you who love to window-shop, this is a great way to earn some extra money. It is paid via direct deposit to your bank account or a prepaid debit card. So get out there and get shopping!
Feature Points – Feature Points allows you to earn cash back on your purchases, for taking surveys, and spreading the word.
It appears to be available in the United States and the European Union. The problem I have had with using this app is that because I’m living in Germany the surveys I get are in German and without trying to translate them as I fill them out I am not going to accomplish anything. So, if you are a native speaker in the country you are living or have a good working knowledge of that language than you should be able to earn something.
How it Works – it is location based, so if you are in a store there will be several products for sale that will qualify you to earn some cash back after you purchase them. You will scan or photograph your receipt of the item(s) after you have purchased them. You can also take surveys and earn money towards a gift card that you have previously selected when setting up your profile or you can also earn cryptocurrency. You need to remain active with this system or they warn if you have been inactive for 60 days then you can forfeit what has been earned but not used.
Here is another one I can’t wait to see how well it works when I get a chance upon going back to the USA for a vacation. Either that, or I’ll have to sit down with a German friend and ask them to help me with a survey.
AppTrailers – with AppTrailers, available at the Apple AppStore or on Google play, you basically earn points towards gift cards by watching trailers on your mobile device.
Even though I was able to download the app, I was not able to create a Perk account due to my being in Germany. Here again, I will make an account once in the USA or I will try to use a VPN and see if that works, as well, since all I’m doing is watching trailers or apps I should be able to do that anywhere.
How it Works – basically you watch videos on the newest apps and you will earn points. You can also upload videos and by getting likes on those you can subsequently earn points. These points can go towards gift cards from iTunes, Goggle play, Starbucks, or Amazon.
This is another one that seems easy to earn rewards for your effort, but you’ll have to tell me in the comments how well it works.
UserTesting – this App, UserTesting, is an app that I have had success using. It is a combination of surveys and reviewing products, web pages, or advertisements.
How it Works – in the test I took as a phone app it works by recording what you are doing and the comments that you are making while performing tasks on a website. You are giving feedback on your experience of performing the tasks that they have provided for you to do. You provide them with your PayPal account. After doing the test there is a period of time that you wait while they look at your results. You need to pay attention to detail and perform the tasks that they provide in the order that they give them to you. If you fail to do this then there is the possibility you will not be paid.
However, after several days my review was approved and $10.00 was put into my PayPal account. So, for me in Germany this has proven to be the best phone app to use as it actually puts money into my account and not points on some form of gift card.
A couple of important things to remember; 1) Be truthful in your responses, do not try to guess what they are looking for in terms of people to perform the testing. They have a record of your answers and will easily determine that you are trying to outsmart the system and you will no longer have this opportunity to earn money. 2) You need to be quick responding to the screening surveys as they appear on your phone. You are not the only one who is trying to earn money this way and its first come first serve. While typing this post, I did at least three pre-screening surveys for usertesting. 3) Although, you can earn money with this app it is not going to be something that you can count on or that will earn enough to stop your daytime job.
English as a Second Language Teacher
Since English is known as the international language, it only makes sense that there is a need for native English speakers or English speakers who can speak at a native English proficiency. Therefore, we will cover two different platforms that I have experienced; VIPKid and iTalki.
I believed since I am an educated native English language speaker it would be a piece of cake. Boy, was I wrong!
VIPKid – first you need to fill in an application with VIPKid and then schedule a live demo of you teaching a young kid following the format that they provide ahead of time. The application and scheduling process was pretty easy to do as it was all online.
I prepared my space and made sure my mic and webcam were functioning properly prior to the appointed live demo. They allow you in a room an hour ahead of your scheduled time just for this purpose. I watched the video that they provided of someone teaching a student and look over the materials briefly. It was that complicated and was limited to a 10-minute session.
They came into the session a little late but I was okay with that and just wanted to pass through this screening so I could start earning up to $20 per hour teaching English.
Everything started out okay, even if I was a little nervous. The screener, an adult, then acted like a kid would for this program and I was on the spot to teach the lesson. Well, 10 minutes quickly went by and I was only halfway thru the lesson. In review, he gave me a few pointers for teaching there system and said the results would be returned to me within 24-48 hours. I thought, I was in!
Less than 24 hours later, I got an email that said, “We feel that your qualifications are still great, but you may not be a good fit for our online classrooms based on your demo class.” Well, phooey! Hahaha! What a let down.
Lessons learned – there is a lot of competition out there so I would say the first thing you should do if you are serious about teaching English as a second language would be to get an ESL certificate and be certified to teach English as a second language. They did ask for any credentials you had that dealt with teaching English.
The next thing I would recommend is to not take the demo lightly and be prepared and rehearsed to be able to cover the material within the allotted 10 minutes. Also, make sure that your background looks like a teaching environment because first impressions are important and to the student you should look like a teacher in a teaching environment.
They do have a full weekly schedule of class times available, mind you it is based in China so the hours would reflect there normal waking hours and you would have to conform to those hours for teaching.
It looks like it could be a good way to earn some steady money online, good luck!
Surveys and Website Reviews
UserTesting – Not only does UserTesting have an app for your mobile device that you can use, but they are also browser-based for both Apple ios-based computers and Windows PCs. I have had success here, as well, and gotten paid $10 for a website review.
How it Works – Part of the application process is to perform a review where you will be graded and paid for the review. They will give more guidance on what you should do for the next time you are selected for a review. After that you just keep taking screening tests to see if you are eligible for the surveys or qualify for the work that they have. Here again, it is best to keep the web page open as tests will continue to pop up and you need to do the screening to see if you qualify. As there is a lot of competition for these tests you need to promptly respond to them when they pop up.
Do not lie or try to cheat the system into giving you a test that you are not qualified to take because if you are caught that will be the end of a good opportunity for earning anywhere from $10 and more for a relatively easy test. I’ve looked at some tests that I could have done but past an ethical boundary that I was not willing to cross because I did not want to put my current full time job in jeopardy. I don’t know if they were testing my ethics or if the job really required me to do what they were asking; I guess I won’t know until I quit my full time job and can afford the risk.

What is it?
How many of you have bought something directly from Amazon?
How many of you have bought something from Amazon through someone’s website?
What’s the difference? To you, the buyer, nothing. You still get a great product delivered to you at the same price.
To the person who has taken the time and energy and provided value in the form of information on his website, he may have earned up to 6% in commissions from Amazon. That is only one example of affiliate marketing.
Some of the biggest stores and companies have affiliate marketing programs. These programs allow people to connect buyers with sellers and get paid a commission for doing that.
Why is it my preferred way to make money online?
Well, with the earlier methods I went through there are two limiting factors. One, you are limited by how much work you can do in one hour, whether its taking surveys, teaching, or watching ads and trailers. Two, you are limited by supply and demand, if there is no survey to take or no website to review or no test you qualify to take you aren’t going to earn any more money.
That’s the same with just about any 9 to 5 job. The only way I can increase my income is by working overtime, if the opportunity comes up. But even then I am limited by what the employer will pay me. That’s the same for you, right?
With affiliate marketing and building a website that supports it, that is not the case. The only limiting factor is the amount of traffic coming to your site(s). So, if you put in the work on the front end then on the back end you will be able to reap the rewards of your hard effort.
You will be able to work from anywhere that has an internet connection. You will be able to work your own hours, looking however you want to look, wearing whatever you want to wear and no one will care.
In addition, you will be helping people find the answer to what they are searching for or providing a solution to a problem that they have.
Wouldn’t you love that? You could be the answer person or the problem solver!
Now, here’s the real kicker. You are able to do this without spending any money on ads and you can start without any knowledge about domains, websites, URLs, encryption, or any of that jargon.

Some forewarning for you!
This is not a get-rich-quick type thing! This will take a lot of work and effort up front. It could literally take months to see results and that is one of the reasons that most people who start an online business quit. They aren’t seeing the results that they want right away.
But, think about this. Most brick and mortar businesses invest a lot of time and money into there businesses well before they start to turn a profit. It can take them several years to have enough of a profit to actually go in the black.
That’s what’s really great about building a website and affiliate marketing. Your costs are minimal and so when your efforts do start paying off it doesn’t take long to be making a profit.
